Our school serves an area from Fairy Creek in the north, the railway line to the west, the ocean to the east and down to Ellen or Glebe street in the south. Any child living in this area is deemed a 'Local' and is entitled to attend our school.

Children living outside this boundary are classified as 'Non-Locals' and must complete a special enrolment application which is then considered by the school's Non-Local enrolment committee. We currently have a number of students who have successfully applied for placement under this system. Naturally, each case is judged on its merits and the availability of places in a particular year or grade.

Kindergarten

Children who turn 5 before the 1st of August are entitled to start school at the beginning of the year. If your child turns 5 in May, June or July we would encourage you to consider whether they are ready to begin school. These 'younger' students often experience significant problems in settling into the routine and demands of school. We would be quite happy to discuss their suitability with you and would recommend you talk to their pre-school teachers before making your final decision. Regardless of age, children are not permitted to start Kindergarten after Term 2.

New Enrolments

When enrolling a student we need to see proof of age e.g. birth certificate, passport. We also need to have a copy of your child's immunisation certificate/details. If your child has not been immunised they may still begin school but would be sent home for the duration of any outbreaks at school should they occur. Overseas students need to bring passports and visa information to the school office.

Student Progress and Reporting

To be updated

P&C

We have two very active parent groups in the school, the School Council and the P & C.

The P & C meets on the first Friday of each month at 9.30 am in the staffroom and takes an active role in such activities as fund raising, supply of uniforms, organising student activity days and so on. You would be most welcome to join this hardworking, friendly group of parents who continue to make a valuable contribution to our school.

The School Council meets at least twice a term (this generally means Wednesdays of Weeks 3 and 8) and is instrumental in providing a forum for parents and students to contribute to the decision making in the school. In the past they have had input in decisions in areas such as the school Fair Discipline Code, the Annual Report, technology planning and public relations to name a few.

In addition to the above two groups we have a number of parents and community members who come into classrooms regularly to assist with classroom activities such as reading groups. We would be only too pleased to welcome you into our school if you have any spare time to help in these areas.

School Contribution Scheme

Following discussions with both the P & C and the School Council in 1995 it was decided that we should introduce a School Contribution Scheme. We have a significant number of parents who support this system because of the benefits it provides for our children.

In consultation with the School Council, we have set the fees for this year at:

$25 a year that can be a one off payment or paid in $5/$10 instalments over a year.

The $25 is a family rate, regardless of the number of students attending school.

A receipt is issued on completion of the payment of $25.

Medication

If your child requires medication during the school day please let us know. We have a number of procedures we are legally required to follow before we can assist in the administration of medication to any student.

School Uniform

Our school uniform for both boys and girls is outlined below . Our parent bodies fully support the wearing of uniforms by all students and the vast majority of students comply with this policy. Naturally, there will be the odd occasion when a child is unable to wear their uniform on a given day and this is acceptable.

Our hard working P & C are able to help in the purchasing of various parts of the school uniform so don't hesitate to contact them through the school for your uniform needs. Other suppliers include Lowes and Claussens.

Hats are compulsory - We have a 'no hat, play in the shade' policy.

Religious headwear should be plain white.

Wide brim hats ($10) and caps ($7), in navy blue can be purchased from the school through the office.

Footwear should be sturdy and completely enclose the foot. We encourage both boys and girls to wear black 'school' shoes. Sandals of any type are not to be worn as they do not offer enough protection in play situations.
